Modified but Festival of Hawks is a go this year

The annual Festival of Hawks is back on Sunday, but there are some changes again this year to ensure everyone's safety.

The Hawk Tower at the Holiday Beach Conservation Area will be closed to the public because it's too small for physical distancing.

Holiday Beach Migration Observatory experts will be there conducting hawk and hummingbird banding and adoptions. It's an opportunity to see the birds up close before they are released back into the wild.

Attendance for walks and talks will be limited so people can maintain a two-metres distance from each other.

There will be an interactive workshop focusing on the Monarch Butterfly and another to improve your nature photography. Festival-goers can also buy native plants at the Native Tree and Plant Nursery.

The festival starts at 9 a.m. and wraps up at 3 p.m. Admission is also $15 per vehicle.

The best time to view is from 9 a.m. until noon when the hawks will be flying low.

Holiday Beach Conservation Area is on County Road 50, about 15 km from Amherstburg.
