As election day gets closer, local Liberal candidates want voters to consider what $10-a-day child care could mean for families in the community.
Windsor West candidate Sandra Pupatello and Windsor-Tecumseh incumbent Irek Kusmierczyk say their plan will save parents with young children thousands of dollars.
"Our Liberal government's $10 a day child care plan will not only strengthen middle-class families and lift thousands out of poverty but it will be transformative for our community," said Kusmierczyk.
The Liberal platform also includes the creation of 250,000 new child care spaces and investments into training new early childhood educators.
"Tomorrow, we wouldn't have enough early childhood educators to actually put in the system," said Pupatello. "That means we have to train more people, we have to build more spaces, that's why this has to happen over time."
The NDP is also promising $10/day child care.
The Conservative Party plan includes scrapping the $10 a day child care plan and introducing an additional child care tax credit.
Pupatello is running in Windsor West against incumbent Brian Masse with the NDP and Conservative Anthony Orlando. Kusmierczyk is the Liberal candidate in Windsor-Tecumseh. He's running against Conservative Kathy Borelli and NDP candidate Cheryl Hardcastle.
The federal election is Monday, September 20, 2021.
