With high winds and rain in the forecast, some Windsor-Essex residents are being warned about worsening shoreline conditions.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has issued a shoreline conditions statement for Tuesday night for the entire Lake Erie shoreline and south Pelee Island.
Environment Canada has forecast winds blowing from the south-southwest at 40 kilometres per hour, with gusts up to 50 kilometres per hour. Winds are then expected to change to a westerly direction by Wednesday morning and diminish.
"There remains some risk of flooding and accelerated nearshore erosion along the Lake Erie shoreline including south Pelee Island as a result of the increased wave activity," said ERCA Water Resources Engineer Tian Martin.
People along the Lake Erie shoreline and south Pelee Island are being asked to exercise caution near shoreline areas and stay out of places that are susceptible to flooding.
The shoreline statement is in effect until at least 10 a.m. Wednesday.
