Active cases climbing again in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 20 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Thursday.

That brings the total number of active cases up to 65. Of those, 14 involve a variant of concern.

Among the new cases identified, eight are close contacts of previously confirmed cases, five were acquired somewhere in the community, and two are travel-related. Health unit staff continue to investigate five new infections.

There are currently two patients in local hospitals being treated for COVID-19.

The vaccination rate remains steady in the region. To date, 76.3 per cent of residents 12 and old have received one dose and 67.4 per cent have been fully vaccinated.

These numbers may not include individuals who got a vaccine outside of the province. The health unit is encouraging those people to register their vaccination through its website so they can be included in the overall coverage rate.
