UWindsor awarded $1.5M under virtual learning grant

The University of Windsor is receiving nearly $1.5-million from the province under a new Virtual Learning Strategy grant.

Ontario is investing a total of $50-million into programs to drive growth in online and hybrid learning across the province. The strategy will be facilitated through eCampus Ontario.

The funds UWindsor is receiving will be used for 19 projects aimed at creating digital content, building digital capacity, supporting digital delivery and enhancing fluency. All final products of the projects will be openly licenced and available for use or adaptation in Ontario through the eCampus open library.

"This means that we don’t just benefit from what is created here at UWindsor, but from everything that is created across all projects in the province," said the Director of the Office of Open Learning, Nick Baker.

Despite the short deadline and the pandemic, Baker added the campus showed significant interest in the projects with over 50 applications submitted.

UWindsor is also a partner on 13 additional projects from elsewhere in Ontario aimed at making a sector-wide change in how education is provided.
