Tecumseh okay with pot shops now

Now that the Town of Tecumseh knows how it worked out for other municipalities, its council is willing to dip its toe in the retail cannabis industry.

While other municipalities went ahead, Tecumseh decided to opt-out of allowing pot shops back in December 2018. The rationale at the time was that council wanted to take a wait-and-see approach.

Lakeshore was another municipality that decided to be cautious, but it changed its mind last year.

Tuesday night, Tecumseh's town council heard a presentation from representatives with the Ontario Cannabis Store, the Crown corporation set up to regulate and sell recreational cannabis in Ontario. A letter from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit also helped council members reconsider its earlier decision.

Windsor has over 20 retail cannabis stores. There are two in Amherstburg, and one each in Essex, Leamington, and Lakeshore.
