Loaded gun found during traffic stop

A Windsor man is facing weapons charges after being stopped for speeding in Amherstburg.

The Windsor Police in Amherstburg stopped the vehicle going 30 km/hr over the speed limit on Front Road Wednesday night.

After stopping the vehicle, officers discovered the driver had a suspended license. Further investigation revealed the driver also had a loaded gun in the car. Officers arrested and charged the driver.

Simon Toma, 22, is facing a number of weapons charges including possession of a loaded restricted firearm and occupying a vehicle with a restricted firearm. The charges have not been proven in court.

The Windsor Police Service Drugs and Guns (DIGS) Unit is continuing to actively investigate this incident.
