South Windsor house fire causes over $275K damage

Oily rags are to blame for a fire on California Avenue in Windsor Friday night.

Emergency crews were called to California Avenue near Norfolk Street around 9 p.m. for a residential structure fire.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in under an hour. An investigator was called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

According to Windsor Fire, the blaze started in an attached garage as a result of the spontaneous combustion of oily rags. The cause is listed as accidental.

Total damage is pegged around $275,000 for the structure as well as $75,000 in contents lost.

No injuries were sustained.
