Federal NDP Leader to discuss Windsor business Tuesday

The leader of Canada's NDP will discuss how Windsor's small businesses seek support during a pandemic.

Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is scheduled to host a Zoom meeting Tuesday morning, to examine the struggles businesses are facing in Windsor-Essex as Canada rides the third wave of COVID-19.

The NDP has accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberals of bailing out large corporations while small businesses suffer due to the pandemic.

Last year, the federal government enacted the COVID-19 Economic Response Plan, which provides eligible businesses with grants covering up to 75 per cent of an employee's wages to help retain workers and avoid layoffs. Support is also in place for self-employed business owners.

Singh is expected to participate with Windsor West MP Brian Masse and Essex NDP candidate Tracey Ramsey. According to the NDP, Michelle Rawlins, a small business owner from Essex who is struggling in the pandemic, will also participate.
