American fishing boats intercepted on Detroit River

After the public complained about U.S. fishing boats on the Canadian side of the Detroit River, ten people have a hefty fine to pay.

Members of the Windsor Police Marine Unit, the RCMP, and Canada Border Services Agency found four American charter fishing boats early last Thursday morning.

Police and border officials escorted two boats to shore on the Canadian side, but two others fled back into American waters.

A total of ten American citizens were charged under the Quarantine Act, the Customs Act, and the Reopening Ontario Act.

All ten were fined a total of $8,800 and served with a notice to return to the U.S.
