Shoreline statement in effect for Lake St. Clair

Portions of the Lake St. Clair shoreline may see some high winds and waves through this week.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has issued a shoreline conditions statement for the Lake St. Clair shoreline from Wednesday evening through Friday morning.

Environment Canada's forecast has called for westerly winds to pick up Wednesday evening, then shift northwest gusting to 50 kilometres per hour overnight. These winds are expected to remain until Friday.

Lake levels are still elevated despite a drop over the past few months so with the wind forecast, a portion of the lakeshore between Belle River and Lighthouse Cove may see some shoreline erosion and a risk of flooding.

People living along this section of Lake St. Clair are asked to take precautions and avoid areas that are prone to flooding.
