WECHU reports 216 new COVID-19 cases and four additional deaths

With the province now under a "stay at home" order to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 216 new cases in the region.

There were also an additional four deaths in the community linked to COVID-19. The region has lost 241 people to the virus since March.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed is urging residents to do their part and remain in their homes as much as possible during this lockdown period.

“We really have to be creative and look for opportunities to reduce the number of times that we are leaving our homes, and coming in contact with other people,” said Dr. Ahmed.

He said people should only be making essential trips for goods, essential services, or to go to their essential workplace.

“If they are out and about they can be asked, they can be questioned, they can be stopped to provide some explanation or some answers to the various levels of law enforcement that are empowered to enforce this order,” said Dr. Ahmed.

The full provincial stay at home order can be found here.
