Windsor gives restaurants a boost with free parking

As restaurants prepare to open only for take-out and delivery, the City of Windsor hopes a little free parking will go a long way.

It is offering 15 minutes of parking free of charge through its Passport Parking App. Regular users can enter Zone #3800 at any meter. New users will have to create a new account and then follow the same instructions.

The city is taking precautions to make sure the freebie is not abused. It can only be used once every six hours.

"This summer and fall, we undertook a number of pilots to support our local small businesses, including waiving fees for sidewalk cafes and helping establish curb-side parklets for extra outdoor dining spaces," said Mayor Drew Dilkens. "Today, I'm proud that we are continuing to find ways to support small businesses in Windsor."

The offer is in effect until Windsor-Essex moves out of lockdown.

More information about the app can be found online on the city's webpage.
