27 more COVID-19 cases in Windsor Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported another 27 cases of COVID-19 in the region on Thursday.

Among the new cases, nine are close contacts of confirmed cases, five are community-acquired, and 13 remain under investigation.

Over the last seven days, the region has seen an average increase of 24 cases a day.

There are now 200 active cases in the community. Eleven people are in the hospital, two of them, in the intensive care unit.

The health unit is currently monitoring outbreaks at two local elementary schools, three long-term care facilities, and one agricultural facility.

The province reported an additional 1,210 COVID-19 cases Thursday and another 28 deaths because of the virus.
