Over 50,000 people tested in Windsor Essex

Over 50,000 unique individuals in Windsor-Essex have been tested for COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to the latest epidemiological study by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, around 1.5 per cent of over 75,000 tests conducted came back positive, 2,454 cases. Currently, in Windsor-Essex, about 700 people get tested daily.

Dr. Wajid Ahmed said the region has seen a lot of ups and downs, but case counts are stabilizing.

"The R-naught effective value is still less than one which is a good sign, indicating a decrease in transmission in Windsor Essex and overall our cases are resolving, and the number of active cases are relatively low," said Dr. Ahmed.

On Friday, the health unit confirmed two additional cases of COVID-19. A person in a retirement home tested positive for the virus, and a case that remains under investigation.
