Region seeing dip in new COVID cases

The medical officer of health for Windsor Essex is encouraged by recent COVID-19 case counts.

There were 10 new cases of COVID-19 reported Tuesday morning. Among the new cases are five agricultural workers, one healthcare worker, three community cases, and one under investigation.

"The numbers that we are seeing right now is definitely better than what we were seeing last week.  If we would continue to see less cases, that would be the most strongest indicator that we can look at before we move forward," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.

Dr. Ahmed said despite a recent drop in numbers, he's not surprised the region is staying in Stage 2.

"We are still above the provincial average with the number of cases," said Dr. Ahmed. "What we are seeing is some cases and activities are within a very specific sector, which is the agricultural sector, and some of the cases we are seeing are still restricted to Leamington and Kingsville area.  So, those will come into discussions and help us understand what the true risk to the community is."

Dr. Ahmed said he expects the province will re-evaluate the region's current case counts at the end of the week.
