Windsor man drowns in French River

The Ontario Provincial Police do not suspect foul play after a Windsor man drowned while vacationing along the French River.

The body of 72-year-old Gerard Pitre was found Tuesday morning after he disappeared while swimming off the dock of the cottage he had owned for two decades.

Pitre disappeared just after 8 p.m. Monday.

The Nipissing West OPP Marine Unit and the OPP Aviation Services Helicopter Section attempted to find him.

When they could not, they called in the OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit. Pitre's body was found just before noon the next day.

A post-mortem is planned, and the investigation is ongoing.
