A member of the Ontario Provincial Police K-9 unit will be fine after receiving a naloxone shot last week.
Police Service Dog (PSD) Maximus was assisting OPP officers in the search of a home on Erie Street South in Leamington last Thursday. Investigators say Maximus was doing a routine search for drugs when he suddenly began showing signs of dizziness and shortness of breath.
Maximus had to be issued a naloxone injection after the search.
In a tweet issued by the OPP Tuesday afternoon, it was announced that Maximus had fully recovered and was ready to resume work.
"'Max says he's feeling much better and glad to be 'bark' to work," read the tweet.
The search did turn up unspecified quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A 57-year-old Leamington man has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
