Windsor and Tecumseh's transit and active transportation systems are getting a boost from the provincial and federal governments.
The federal government is pitching in $12.6 million while the provincial government is granting $10.5 million to help fund nine projects in Windsor and one project in Tecumseh.
The projects in Windsor include purchasing 19 new buses for Transit Windsor, building new bus shelters and improving bike lanes to make better connections with the transit system.
"These buses and each of the other projects receiving funding will help us deliver on a promise to create new routes, more direct connections, extended hours, economic growth, improved customer service and a bigger more modern fleet to better meet the needs of our growing community," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.
In Tecumseh, a new three-kilometre multi-use pathway is being built to connect Tecumseh Hamlet to the Tecumseh Transit Service.
"Linking our active transportation facilities to our transit system gives our citizens choices of how they move through and between our communities," said Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara.
