UPDATE: Standoff in west Windsor ends

A man is in police custody following a standoff in Windsor that lasted almost 18 hours.

It began shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday at a home on Rooney Street near McKay Avenue, according to Windsor police Sergeant Steve Betteridge. Officers determined there was a man inside the home refusing to come out.

It was determined that the man had allegedly committed a series of offences, including assault and uttering threats. However, at this point, no official charges have been filed.

Windsor police's Emergency Services Unit assisted on scene, and a command post was set up. The Ontario Provincial Police also sent a Tactics and Rescue Unit to assist Windsor officers.

The man was arrested without incident at around 12:30 p.m. on Monday.

Police were not sure if there was a weapon involved. The man's name has not been released since formal charges have yet to be laid.

The area was closed to traffic for the duration of the incident. The roads have since reopened and the investigation is ongoing.
