Police K9 helps track down suspects

Police canine Maximus helped provincial police nab two suspects wanted in connection to multiple offences in Essex County.

On Thursday around 4:30 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near County Road 31 in Lakeshore where a car was abandoned in an active lane on the highway. OPP said the car had already been involved in a collision in another county and had failed to remain at the scene.

The canine unit and the emergency response team were called to search for the occupants of the vehicle. Maximus led police to an outbuilding of a nearby farm where two people were hiding. One person had minor injuries from a dog bite during the arrest and required medical treatment.

Police arrested and charged 37-year-old Pierre Mann of Windsor with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with a probation order, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. Darlene Redding, 47, also of Windsor is charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime and possession. None of the charges have been proven in court.
