Spitfires edge Rangers 5-4 in OT

The Windsor Spitfires defeated the Kitchener Rangers 5-4 in overtime on Sunday.

Wyatt Johnston was first to score a goal for the Spitfires, followed closely by a goal from the Spitfires' Will Cuylle. Mike Petizian scored for the Rangers 8:39 into the frame and Tyler Angle responded with a goal for the Spitfires at 10:09. The Rangers' Arber Xhekaj scored 17:37 into the frame.

Both teams failed to score in the second period.

Riley Damiani put the game at a tie by scoring for the Rangers 0:37 into the third period. Jonathan Yantsis broke the tie to put the Rangers in the lead. The Spitfires' Curtis Douglas put the game at another tie with a goal 8:09 into the frame.

Egor Afanasyev scored a power-play goal scored 4:02 into overtime to give the win to the Spitfires.

Windsor goalie Kari Piiroinen saved 24 out of 28 shots on net.

The Spitfires will face-off against the Erie Otters on Saturday at the WFCU Centre. Puck drops at 7: 05 p.m.
