A 44-year-old Brampton man is in the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police after border officials on the Windsor side of the Ambassador Bridge found 30 bricks of what they believe is cocaine in a tractor-trailer.
The truck was crossing into Windsor from Detroit on December 15.
The cocaine was found during the secondary inspection and weighed 40 kgs.
"This arrest is an indication of the hard work affected by both the RCMP and CBSA," said Staff Sergeant Tim Pettit at the RCMP Windsor Detachment. "These officers work in unison to stop the smuggling of illegal drugs into our country in order to keep our streets safe."
The driver, Manjinder Gill, was arrested and now faces charges of importing a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The charges have not been proven in court.
Since January 1, 2019, Canadian Border Security Agency officials have seized more than 395 kilograms of suspected cocaine.
