A Windsor-Essex non-profit agency is inviting the public to learn about opioids and naloxone.
The AIDS Committee of Windsor will host a free workshop Wednesday evening at Drouillard Place, during which people can learn about opioids, the effects of opioids, and how to use naloxone to reduce the symptoms of overdoses until medical care is obtained.
The workshop is part of the committee's Label Me Person initiative, designed to educate people on the fact that addiction can happen to anyone, and that it's important to focus on treating the problem, not ridiculing the addict.
Different forms of opioids will be discussed, along with their intended medical uses as well as the adverse effects of abuse. The various kinds of naloxone and their uses will also be brought forth. At the end of the workshop, those who wish to be trained on how to use naloxone will have a chance to do so.
The workshop runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Drouillard Place, 1102 Drouillard Rd. It's free, but registration is necessary.
