For the eleventh year in a row, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Windsor-Essex County Branch will host a candlelight vigil and service for bereaved parents and family members.
"The candlelight vigil provides the opportunity to come together in a meaningful way, to honour and remember children who have died at any age from any cause," said Bereavement Educator at CMHA, Sona McMahon-Comartin. "This is particularly significant because candles are lit worldwide, creating a wave of light and unified support."
Compassionate Friends Worldwide has held an international candle lighting on the second Sunday of December for the past 20 years.
The event on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Fogolar Furlan Club in Windsor is free.
It is an extension of the CMHA's local bereavement program, which supports hundreds of children and adults every year deal with the loss of a loved one.
This year, Michael and Michelle Kauhlmann will share their story. Their son, Aaron, died in 2017 in a tragic winter car crash. He was 23.
The Kuhlmanns took part in the bereavement program and were able to transform their grief, to remember not just Aaron's death, but his life too.
