A local organization that helps young men overcome homelessness is looking for community support this holiday season.
The Windsor Residence for Young Men is looking to raise $16,000, enough to support two youth aged 16 -24 for an entire year.
"We teach them basic life skills, teach them how to cook, they're required to complete their education if they're not done school, we teach them responsibility, not entitlement," said Dave Freeman with the WRYM.
The WRYM has around 50 admissions per year with around a 90 per cent success rate of youth either returning home or finding a place to live independently.
The WRYM has partnered with the Home Depot store on Walker Road and Division Road to help raise the funds this year.
"As people are out doing their Christmas shopping we're asking that if they can please help up at the cash register. We're asking for a $2 donation and we're hoping and counting on the generosity of Windsor and Essex County," said Freeman.
The Home Depot Canada Foundation partners with local organizations each year that offer supports to prevent youth homelessness. Between December 3 and December 22 the store will be collecting funds at the cash registers. Donations can also be made online.
