Special weather statement calls for significant rainfall

Environment Canada is warning residents in both Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex a lot of rain is on the way, starting Wednesday morning.

It issued a special weather statement calling for rainfall amounts of up to 50 millimetres because of a low-pressure system approaching Southern Ontario from the southwest.

The heaviest rain will come Thursday afternoon, with strong northwesterly to westerly wind gusts of up to 70 km/h possible Thursday night into Friday morning.

The heavy rain could impact visibility on the roads, so the agency urges drivers to use their headlights and maintain a safe following distance.

With the kids trick-or-treating Thursday night, drivers should also take extra care in neighbourhoods. Pedestrians are more difficult to see in the dark when it is raining.
