Oily rags to blame for early morning fire

Windsor Fire and Rescue is issuing a reminder after another house fire was started by oily rags for the second time in a week.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m. Sunday, fire crews responded to reports of a house fire on Tourangeau Road near Tecumseh Road East. It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the flames.

According to Windsor Fire, the cause was oily rags left in a second-floor hallway that self-combusted.  No one was home during the blaze and damage is being pegged at $50,000.

This comes two days after a house fire on Dominion Boulevard, where oily rags in the kitchen ignited, causing $100,000 in damage.

Windsor Fire is reminding people to use caution when working with any solvents and avoid keeping any oily cloths in a pile, which can lead to spontaneous combustion.
