Some parts of the Windsor area could get soaked Friday night

A special weather statement has been issued for Windsor and Essex County.

Environment Canada said local heavy downpours are possible Friday night. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to continue to develop and will move slowly eastward across parts of the region.

The Windsor area could get up to 50 millimetres of rain. Wind gusts to 80 kilometres per hour are also possible.

"These storms are very localized and some places will see no rain at all," Environment Canada added.
