Wannabe Spider-Man snared on downtown Windsor roof

A Windsor man has been arrested after trying to play Spider-Man on a downtown Windsor rooftop.

Police said they were called about a possible theft in progress just after 5 a.m. on Friday on Ouellette Avenue near Tuscarora Street and found a series of make-shift ladders leading up to a rooftop.

"Information was received that a suspect was on the roof of a downtown building located in the 700 block of Ouellette, possibly stealing copper wire," said police.

Normally police investigations require a little digging but this one needed some climbing. The officers made their way to the roof and discovered a man hiding inside a damaged air conditioner unit. He was arrested without incident after being found with cut copper believed to be from the damaged air conditioner unit. Officers also found several break and enter tools.

David Schweitzer, 51, from Windsor, is charged with theft, mischief, and possession of break and enter tools.

"The keen eye of the complainant helped bring a halt to this theft in progress," police added.
