A new roundabout in Belle River is open ahead of schedule.
The Town of Lakeshore said road and bridge construction at the intersection of Notre Dame and West River is finished a week earlier than anticipated. The bridge and road will be open on Friday at 3 p.m. instead of the planned June 28 opening.
"Due to the interest in opening the road early, the town worked very closely with the contractor to keep the project moving forward despite the persistent rain," the town said in a news release.
Lakeshore officials added there are still a few minor items yet to be completed but the project site is open to the public.
The new roundabout includes a number of improvements such as West River road reconstruction, new sidewalks and a railway pedestrian crossing, Belle River bridge rehabilitation, and new roadway lighting and signs.
