Flood warning issued for Leamington shorelines

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has issued a flood warning for Leamington shorelines.

According to the ERCA, flooding has begun along the southern section of Cotterie Park Road in Leamington. Water levels have risen due to the sustained easterly winds and the bank is full.

Cedar Creek has breached its banks with water reaching Heritage Road in the Town of Kingsville. Winds are expected to continue at their current speed and direction through Sunday, making conditions worse. Low lying beach communities and shoreline areas of Lake St. Clair, the Detroit River, and Lake Erie and low lying areas along the downstream reaches of major tributaries may be affected.

Residents are cautioned to avoid areas where flooding is occurring. Different areas along the shoreline may also be affected as winds shift after the weekend.

The warning is in effect for the Lake Erie shoreline including Pelee Island, Lake St. Clair shoreline, Detroit River shoreline, and along all significant waterways.
