Windsor's jobless rate inched up a tenth of a percentage point in May to 5.7 per cent, but the number of people working also climbed.
In May 2018, the unemployment rate in Windsor was 5.9 per cent.
Statistics Canada's Labour Force Survey for last month said the labour participation rate in the city also climbed slightly to 63.5 per cent, an increase of three per cent from a year ago.
Across the country, the agency said fewer people were looking for work in May, and the national unemployment rate hit another 40-year low, 5.4 per cent last month.
Over the past year, more than 453,000 positions were added across Canada, most of them full-time, over 299,000. Another 154,000 jobs were part-time.
Health care and social services saw the most significant gains, 21,000 net positions, half of them in Ontario, which saw its unemployment rate fall 0.8 per cent to 5.2 per cent in May.
Statistics Canada said more people were also self-employed, about 62,000 people told the agency they were their own boss.
