A loss prevention officer had to be taken to hospital after he was stabbed while trying to stop a shoplifter at a Windsor grocery store.

Windsor police officers were called to the Real Canadian Superstore at 2430 Dougall Ave. on Thursday shortly after 8 p.m., after the loss prevention officers suffered injuries in a confrontation with an adult male who had tried to steal merchandise from the store.

The employee's injuries were non-life threatening but he remained in hospital Thursday evening.

One man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident. Police said charges are pending.
