Windsor driver charged after serious Valentine's Day crash

A 20-year-old Windsor man's failure to stay at the scene of a collision has resulted in charges being laid.

Windsor police officers were dispatched shortly after 8 p.m. on Thursday to the intersection of George Avenue and Reginald Street on a report of a motor vehicle crash. When they arrived, they noticed a silver Cadillac on a curb about 50 yards from the intersection, as well as a white Chrysler sedan on the front lawn of a home. Police were told on their way to the scene that the driver of the Cadillac had run from the scene, northbound on George.

The female driver of the Chrysler was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Investigators remained on scene for several hours and the intersection was reopened to traffic early Friday morning.

The suspect was identified and apprehended around 2:30 a.m. Friday on St. Louis Avenue near Edgar Street.

The man, who has not been identified, faces charges that include dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and failure to remain at the scene of a crash causing bodily harm. He has been released with a promise-to-appear at a future court date.
