Fans of Sheila E may be disappointed the 80s funk singer has cancelled her performance at this year's Bluesfest, but it has opened up a rare opportunity for a local band.
Bluesfest President Rob Petroni said the festival is looking for a local band to fill a gap left in the schedule on the second stage July 13.
"It's our Tribute to Prince night, and it's going to be a great party," said Petroni describing what kind of band would fit the theme. "Little bit of funk, some 80s, party atmosphere type music. Something people can sing and dance too."
"We have a team of people looking and searching the internet and talking to local musicians and getting input," he said.
Local musicians who are interested can go to Bluesfest's website and email the board.
"Judging from online ticket sales it looks like its going to be the first sold out long before the event," he said.
Bluesfest found out last week Sheila E was not going to make it.
"Something came up that I think was much much more lucrative, I'm guessing," said Petroni. "They did have a contract signed, and we did have a deposit put down and after discussions for a few days, we just mutually agreed that we will get rid of the contract this time and hopefully bring her back with her band next year."
Instead of Sheila E, Detroit's award-winning R&B band, Katheleen Murray and The Groove Council will take the main stage that night along with Morris Day and The Time, and the Purple Reign band.
This year Bluesfest runs July 5, 6, 12 and 13 at Windsor's Riverfront Festival Plaza.
