Suspect arrested in attempted break-and-enter

A 50-year-old man has been charged in connection with an aborted attempt to break into a downtown Windsor home.

Windsor police said officers were called Friday morning to a residence on Chatham Street West near Church Street for a report of a break-and-enter that took place overnight. Several items had been stolen from the location.

On Sunday morning, police were called back to that residence for a report of a suspicious male seen on the premises. Officers were able to determine through investigation and studying surveillance footage that the man was trying to break in and had left when he realized people were home. The man was also reported to have some of the items taken from the residence in the Friday incident.

Police arrested a suspect on Sunday evening. Michael Pontich of Windsor is charged with attempted break-and-enter and possession of stolen property under $5,000. These charges have yet to be proven in court.
