A special group of young people has been recognized by the City of Windsor as 'Community Champions'.
Jaxson Nosella, Avery Nosella, Alexis Nadon, Brennan Tedley and Travis Loughead started the W.E. Care for Kids Lemonade Brigade in 2014 at Windsor Regional Hospital’s Metropolitan Campus to raise money to help support sick children in Windsor and Essex County. Last year, the group more than doubled its sales from the previous year by raising $10,000 and this year hopes to raise another $10,000.
Travis Loughead, 13, says it feels good to help others.
"You want to just help. You don't want to take, take, take. At some point you have to give and thats why it's really gratifying. Some people can't get healthcare and I think this will really help other kids get healthcare," says Travis.
Windsor Essex Care For Kids Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the health and wellness of children in Windsor-Essex through fundraising. Since 1997, it has raised more $7.4-million to buy equipment for local paediatric programs and services.
Avery Nosella, 12, says it's the last year for their stand but encourages other young people to follow in their foot steps.
"We encourage other kids to start their own lemonade stand and we have our own starter kits for W.E. Care For Kids. They have everything you need in them," she says.
Brennan Tedley, 14, says he joined because it seemed like a good idea to make a positive difference in where you live.
"I would recommend starting one because all you are doing is helping out the community and helping others who are less fortunate and they really need the help to get better," says Brennan.
