Windy forecast extends watershed statement

High winds Tuesday and Wednesday may mean stronger wave action on the shores of Lakes Erie and St. Clair.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) issued a watershed conditions statement Monday afternoon due to high sustained winds in the forecast, and that has now been extended into Thursday morning at 10.

ERCA says sustained wind speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, with gusts approaching 60 kilometres per hour may lead to shoreline erosion in Windsor-Essex. These winds have the potential to affect the shorelines of Lake St. Clair from east Windsor to Lakeshore, and the north and west coasts of Pelee Island.

Conditions are currently under the "flood watch" threshold, but ERCA will continue to monitor conditions and update when needed.
