Canada Post rotating strike hits Amherstburg

Now it is Amherstburg's turn.

Rotating strikes by mail carriers employed by Canada Post will hit the Essex County community today.

Workers walked off the job on October 22, with Windsor being one of the first cities hit by the walkout.

Mail carriers, represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers are fighting for better wages, benefits, job security, and pay equity for rural and suburban carriers.

The corporation has offered improved wages and benefits, but pay equity for those working outside major cities remains an issue.

The strikes will hit 26 communities Tuesday. Along with Amherstburg, mail will not be delivered in London, Sarnia, St. Thomas, and Guelph.

Canada Post issued an update Tuesday morning stating it is working to minimize the impact to Canadians, "but the union's escalating strikes continue to cause backlogs in our national, integrated delivery network."

The statement said some customers could see delays in delivery of several days.
