Man seriously hurt in Windsor industrial accident

A Windsor deli employee is in hospital following an incident Saturday afternoon.

Windsor police said it happened at a business on Tecumseh Rd. E. and Buckingham Drive. Police, and witnesses posting on social media, confirmed the business as Deda's Meat and Deli.

Officers arrived at the deli shortly after 3 p.m. on a report of an industrial accident. According to police, the employee somehow got his arm caught in a meat grinder.

First responders were able to remove the man from the equipment and rush him to hospital, where he was treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

A handwritten sign on the door Sunday said the business will be closed until further notice.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour continues to investigate the incident. Ministry spokesperson Janet Deline told BlackburnNewsWindsor.com on Monday that an investigator is actively looking into what happened and no orders have been issued.

The injured employee has not been identified and as of Monday afternoon there was no update on the extent of the injuries.
