FCM Comes Through With $500K For Windsor Projects

Windsor is getting funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the federal government for four major projects to prevent future basement flooding and improve active transportation.

Federation and Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Francois-Phillippe Champagne announced more than $12.1-million for infrastructure projects across the country. The money will come from three programs; the Green Municipal Fund, the Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program, and the Municipal Asset Management Program.

Windsor was approved for $125,000 for each for four projects; undertaking an active transportation master plan, integrating site energy plans at two wastewater treatment plants, deep energy efficient retrofit strategy, and a flood risk study for Riverside, East Riverside, and Lake St. Clair.

Pelee Island was also approved for $46,100 for site assessment and remedial planning at the Pelee Island Cooperative property.

A release from the federation reads, "the Government of Canada believes that local leaders know best what the communities need and is committed to working with them to strengthen their infrastructure. Municipalities are implementing some of Canada's most advanced green solutions, reducing Canada's greenhouse gas emissions and supporting local priorities such as improving public transit, saving energy and improving waste management."

In total, 159 projects across Canada will receive funding.
