Windsor's New Centennial Plaza To Be Dedicated

"It's going to be beautiful," says Rotary Club of Windsor President, Colleen Mitchell about the city's new Centennial Plaza on Windsor's riverfront.

The spot on Riverside Dr. between Goyeau and McDougall St. will be dedicated Tuesday evening at 7pm.

Two years ago, the local Rotary Club announced the legacy project to commemorate a century of service locally, and around the world. It was funded by the service club, the City of Windsor, and community partners.

"We will soon dedicate our centennial gift to the citizens of Windsor," says Mitchell. "It will be a stunningly beautiful public park - a park within a park."

The centrepiece is a 7' geodesic light sculpture created by artist Nicolas de Cosson. ENWIN Utilities is sponsoring the sculpture.

Other unique features in the space include walkways, benches, swings, a concrete ping pong table, and over-sized "picture frames" so visitors can take photos with Windsor or the Detroit skyline as a backdrop.

Other centennial projects in Windsor-Essex are a Centennial Hub connecting the Herb Gray Pkwy trail with the Chrysler Canada Greenway hiking trails, and a scholarship program for Youth Exchange program participants.
