The fire in an apartment in the St Angela's Seniors Centre broke out around 9am Friday morning on the fifth floor.
There were no injuries reported. A cause and damage estimate has not been determined.
Fire crews remain on the scene. McDougall St. is blocked to traffic from Erie St. to Giles Blvd.
