UPDATE: Public School Expanding French Immersion In West Windsor

The Greater Essex County District School Board now says it will offer French Immersion at two additional schools this September.

Parents with children attending Marlborough Public School received a note from the school on Thursday that the board has decided to offer the program at the West Windsor school starting this fall.

Friday, the public school board issued a release saying French Immersion will also be offered at Central Public School.

“It must be noted that this decision was necessary due to the overcapacity of the student population at Giles Public School,” read the letter. “The current student population of Giles is already 100 students greater than the total capacity of the new school.”

The release says capacity at Bellewood Public School continues to be an issue as well. The changes mean the boundaries for Bellwood and Giles to relieve the pressure on enrolment.

Both Marlborough and Central will continue to offer English programming in addition to French Immersion. French-language programming will start in September in JK, SK, and grade one. Another grade will be added each year after that.

A public meeting is planned for Wednesday, April 18 at 6pm at Marlborough to discuss the changes.
