Budget Survey Calls For Moral Technology Education

The results of a survey by the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board suggests teaching kids how to ethically and morally use technology should become a priority in the classroom.

The results of the survey to gauge priorities for this year's budget were presented to school board trustees Tuesday night.

Just over 30% of respondents placed technology ethics ahead of professional development, nurturing opportunities for prayer and community celebration, and promoting the Christian spirit when asked how the board could best refresh its faith resources.

The number of respondents fell by almost half this year to 210. A total of 398 parents or guardians, staff, and students completed the survey last year.

Of the respondents, 50.5% were parents or guardians, while 43.3% were employed by the board.

Other findings of the survey suggest 40% of respondents think the board needs to improve its computer network and classroom furniture, 30% think trustees should invest in more experts for its specialized programming, and 25% believe higher priority should be given to positive mental health.

The findings will be considered during budget deliberations later this spring. The budget will be tabled on June 12, and approval is expected on June 25.
