The city of Windsor is presenting a "live and unplugged" event to call attention to the state of our planet.
Charles Clark Square downtown will be the focus of the city's annual Earth Hour celebration beginning Saturday at 8pm. The event, held in Windsor since 2009 on the last Saturday in March, features activities designed to encourage people to work together for a better Earth.
Earth Hour is a worldwide observance in which people are encouraged to "unplug" for one hour, by turning off all non-essential lights and putting away computers and electronic devices. Earth Hour begins locally at 8:30pm, and the city will turn off all of its non-essential city lights in observance.
The downtown event will offer a cardio jam session, art demonstrations provided by the University of Windsor's School of Creative Arts, demonstrations of kinetic cycling, music from an acoustic duo, an electric vehicle on display, and other activities.
The city is teaming up with ENWIN Utilities and Caesars Windsor Cares Code Green.
