The Ron McDermot era is coming to an end in the Town of Essex.
The Essex mayor told his county council colleagues at their meeting Wednesday night that he won't be around next term.
The comment came while discussing the AMO conference bid.
"Seeing as I won't be around next term, I would volunteer my services [for the AMO conference committee]. I'll have lots of hours I can volunteer," McDermott says.
McDermott is expected to officially announce his retirement from politics as early as next week.
He was elected mayor in 2003.
