The horror of a terrorist attack on a Quebec mosque is recalled in a new film.
The Windsor Islamic Council, in conjunction with MuslimFest, Dawanet and Canada Zakat, is observing the first anniversary of what is considered the deadliest attack on a house of worship in Canadian history.
A public screening of the documentary film "Your Last Walk in the Mosque" will be held Sunday evening at Windsor City Hall.
According to a Facebook post announcing the event, local dignitaries are expected to attend and speak before the screening. It is one of many events scheduled nationwide to commemorate the tragedy.
The film presents eyewitness accounts from those who witnessed the attack. Those who were injured also provide insight into what happened, along with the effects the shooting had on the families of those killed. It also describes how the Quebec City mosque had been a target of Islamophobia in the past.
Six people were killed on January 29, 2017, when a gunman entered the Centre Culturel Islamique de Quebec in the Sainte-Foy neighbourhood of Quebec City during an evening prayer service and opened fire. Nineteen others were injured.
The screening at city council chambers begins at 5:30pm.
