Windsor police say a man was attacked over the weekend after setting up a meeting on the internet.
Sargeant Steve Betteridge says the incident happened around 9:30am Sunday at a house on Parent Ave. near Erie St E.
A 55-year-old man told police he had set up a meeting over the internet with someone who claimed to be a sex trade worker. When he arrived at the home, he encountered a woman there but was then confronted by three men.
One man was armed with an axe, another with a knife, while the third man was unarmed. The two armed men had their faces covered.
Police say the man was assaulted and robbed. One of the suspects also took items from the man's vehicle, including his identification.
The man was then allowed to leave the house and he went directly to Windsor police headquarters. Police later arrested a 22-year-old woman. She has been charged with robbery.
Some of the stolen items were recovered at the house. Police also seized weapons believed to have been used in the incident.
The three men have been described as follows:
- The first was white, 5'7" with a slender build. He had a bandanna around his face and was armed with an axe.
- The second was white, 5'7", also with a slender build. He wore a black mask and was armed with a knife.
- The third was white, 6' with a slender build. He was cleanly shaven with dark hair.
Police are asking residents to be especially wary of meeting a stranger over the internet. Many legitimate transactions are done over the internet but police say it's a good idea to meet in a public place, such as a mall, a coffee shop or other populated area.
